Habikino City sits in the southeastern part of Osaka Prefecture, stretching from the Habikino hills toward the Yamato River basin. It contains part of the Furuichi Kofun Tumulus Cluster, a UNESCO World Heritage Site including the tomb of Emperor Ojin, making it a place where ancient history is close at hand.
The Komagatani and Asuka areas, meanwhile, are known for grape growing, and facilities connected to local wine production can be found there, giving the city a side quite different from its ancient burial mounds. Furuichi Area vs. Komagatani/Asuka Area
Sightseeing in Habikino roughly splits into two zones with different atmospheres. Around Furuichi Station, shrines and temples such as Konda Hachimangu, Sairin-ji, and Yachu-ji cluster together, making it easy to walk or cycle between several sites in one visit.
Toward Komagatani and Tsuboi, you'll find Kawachi Winery and Morimoto Shrine (Morimoto Jinja), set among hillside vineyards with views along the way. Since distances between sites are a bit longer here, it's worth planning this area separately from the Furuichi cluster.
Suicho-en Iseki Park and the Habikino Visitor Center work well as stops to learn about the area's nature and history between shrine visits. Historic buildings like the Yoshimura Residence (Yoshimura-ke Jutaku) are also worth including to get a fuller picture of the city's background.
