60 Sightseeing Spots in Chiba Prefecture

60 spots Facts checked 2026-08-30

Chiba Prefecture stretches between Tokyo Bay and the Pacific Ocean, with the Boso Peninsula forming a long coastline at its southern tip. In the north, historic sites such as Naritasan Shinshoji and Katori Jingu sit alongside the old townscape of Sawara, while inland areas like Yoro Valley and the Oyama Senmaida rice terraces offer a quieter, rural scenery.

This article organizes 60 spots from across the prefecture, based on information from Marugoto e! Chiba (Chiba Prefecture Tourism Association), into rough groups by character: lighthouses and lookout points, faith-related sites carved into rock formations like Mt. Nokogiri and Gake Kannon, family-oriented attractions such as Kamogawa Sea World and Mother Farm, and food or shopping spots like Katsuura Morning Market and various roadside stations.

How much ground you can cover in a day depends on transport and the length of your stay. Getting a rough sense of the regions—Minami-Boso, the outer coast (Sotobo), the inner bay (Uchibo), the northern Narita/Sawara area, and the Tokyo Bay side—before browsing the list below will make planning easier.

Thinking by Area

Near the tip of the Boso Peninsula, the Tateyama and Minami-Boso area brings together Susaki Shrine, Nojimazaki Lighthouse, Gake Kannon, and several beaches, making it a good fit for a coastal walking trip. Further along the outer coast, the Katsuura, Kamogawa and Otaki area combines the sea with inland scenery, from Uraga Coast and Nirtaemon Island to Yoro Valley and the Oyama Senmaida terraces.

In the north, Narita, Sawara and Katori form a cluster of historical and cultural spots—Naritasan Shinshoji, Katori Jingu, the Ino Tadataka Museum, and the Koedo Sawara boat tours—well suited to exploring an Edo-period townscape on foot. Along Tokyo Bay, the Kisarazu, Sodegaura and Futtsu area has more car-friendly stops such as Umihotaru, Tokyo German Village, and the outlet malls.

Before You Go

Beaches and gorges can look very different depending on the season and weather, and shrines, farms, and roadside stations each keep their own hours and closing days. Please check each facility's official website for current information before visiting.
